Project and Pitch

The Sustainable Development Project and Pitch is open to all students in the Central Okanagan in grades 8-12.

Students form a team and register on our website (Get Involved).

Student choose a global goal they want to address.

Student teams connect with a community organization like an NGO, Non Profit, or social enterprise and create an innovative solution that addresses the issue they are both passionate about.

Teams are mentored along the way with local experts and leaders to build and implement a viable project.

Top teams pitch live to judges and a public audience to secure funding to make their project a reality.

Arts for Social Change

Arts for Social Change calls on students to raise awareness about world issues through their artistic craft.

Youth ages 5-25 are invited to create an original artistic piece reflecting the Sustainable Development Goal they are committed to.

Dance, music, video, spoken word, visual arts, textile arts and other art forms will be used to bring public awareness and calls to action on Global Issues.

Public gallery space and live presentation spots will be given to top projects as well as financial awards to further their cause.

  • Raise critical awareness and understanding of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and global issues like human rights, environmental justice, and marginalization.

  • Gain insight into the pressing global issues related to People, Prosperity, Peace, Partnerships and the Planet and critically reflect on our own positionality in regards to ‘others’.

  • Participate in a platform to have your voice heard in the broader community and receive support to implement your ideas into impactful solutions.

  • Collaborate with community members and mentors, learn about ways to listen, hear and learn from equity-deserving groups in the community or in other countries.

  • Develop creative and practical proposals for how issues can be resolved.
