Are you a game changer- an innovator- a young person with a passion to lead, engage and impact your world?

We invite you (and your team) to tackle issues related to the 17 United Nations’ Global Goals. With guidance and support from partners and mentors, you will develop your idea into a meaningful, sustainable and feasible project to present to your community. Top teams receive funding and support to make their ideas a reality.

Step One

Identify the PROBLEM or issue you want to change.

Which Global Goal does it fit with? Learn about the Global Goals and decide YOUR NUMBER. Which one of the goals gets you fired up?

Step Two

Assemble your dynamic team and Register!

Members of each team must be between 13 and 24 years old and from Central Okanagan. Each team must have no more than five members. It is preferred that each team have a teacher/mentor or supervising adult.

Step Three

Build your project.

If your project idea is accepted, you will be given access to the SDC online course and invited to participate in an ideation night where mentors and the SDC team will help you refine and develop your idea. You will then proceed to create an abstract for your proposal.

Step Four

Finalize your project.

Teams with the best abstracts will be chosen to compete in the Challenge Finale. If your project was chosen to move forward through online course modules, more research and mentorship, you develop your idea into the most compelling, impactful, sustainable and feasible project possible.

Step Five

Prepare your live pitch and present it at the SDC Finale!

Take the best parts of your project and Educate, Entertain, and Inspire to action a live audience of judges, community members, and prospective donors. In a creative on stage pitch show how you are ready to make an impact on the Global Goals!

Here’s what past students have said about The SDC!

The challenge opened my eyes to charity work and how it happens and to all the amazing causes out there. I wouldn’t change my experience for the world!!
I have a WAY better understanding! This event really opened my eyes and from now on I see issues and how they connect to their numbers and what their impact on the world is. I see so much more now and I want to change so much more now too!! I think this challenge is so amazing in how it teaches us about the world and how much it needs our help.
The challenge exposed us to the SDG’s and allowed for creativity and innovation-good opportunity to public speak and present our project
I learned so much about connections between charity’s and NGO’s and students, I learned about just how much you can really get done even as a young adult, and I learned about a wide range of issues I didn’t even know about before!
We will certainly maintain our relationship with the NGO. We still communicate regularly and are doing fundraisers and I believe Doug will be a connection for life. I hope to one day go to the school in Uganda!
We were able to connect more with our community and each other. It also allowed us to learn more about initiatives in Kelowna
