Project and Pitch Criteria

In teams of 2-5 members, you will work alongside a Kelowna based Community organization of your choosing to develop an innovative project that will address at least one of the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

After registering, you will have the support of the SDC Coordinator and your mentor(s) to develop your project by completing the first draft of the Abstract questions.

November 23, 2023 will be the SDC Mentor Night where you will have the opportunity to share your project ideas with leaders in business, leadership, and nonprofit work and gain their input, feedback, and encouragement.

You will submit your Final Draft of the Abstract by December 22, 2023.

Finalists will be announced on Monday, January 8, 2023.

Additional mentor support will be available throughout January and February as you prepare the Written Submission of your project. In 2022 we partnered with 3rd year students in the Sustainable Management class at Okanagan College. Watch this VIDEO!

You will submit the Written Proposal of your project by Friday, February 9, 2024.

You will then focus your energy on your Presentation for the SDC Finale!

On Thursday, February, 22, 2024 you will present your project to a live audience and panel of judges in a 10 minute presentation. Funds will be distributed to turn your projects into action!

The Written Proposal

This written format builds on the previous information from your Phase 1 Abstract. It should be comprehensive and can include graphics, links, photos, and other media to enhance your project.

Please complete the Written Proposal questions and submit by the posted deadline. The Proposal is due: Friday, February 9, 2024.

Email it to Antonia at SDC@bccic.ca

Phase 3: The Presentation

Present your project to a panel of judges at the Challenge Finale in February.

This is worth an additional 20 points.

Each team has 10 minutes to present their project in a creative and effective manner to an audience of students, family and community members as well as a panel of judges.

The format for the presentation may include any artistic means of presentation that touches on each of the criteria areas in an inspiring way but with a minimum of a power point and verbal presentation.

Only videos produced and directed by the presenters may be used in the competition.

The amount of funding received will be based on the total points earned (out of 100 points).

The top-scoring team will receive a school trophy and individual ribbons and financial sponsorship of up to $5000 to complete their project!

Everyone is a winner because Sustainable Development Challenge participants make the world a better place!

*Funds are dispersed for specific costs related to the project needs via a third party.
